Natural Stone
Aside from concrete pavers, there is natural stone in the form of flagstone, which are large, flat pieces of rock with smooth or jagged edges that come in a variety of colors and shapes. The most common flagstone here in the Denver Metro Area is Colorado Red and Colorado Buff flagstone, which vary from a deep red color to a tan/ beige. Flagstone is a wonderful way to upgrade your landscape, whether it be a flagstone pathway, patio or even stepping stones. Regardless, this natural stone is sure to impress friends, family and guests utilizing the natural elements found throughout the mountains.

Flagstone Patio in Boulder
Here we have a flagstone patio we built for a farm in Boulder, Colorado. This patio consisted of an “overlay”, which is comprised of installing a concrete pad for the flagstone to be set on top. This is a more expensive, but stronger way to build a patio. Each individual flagstone piece (Colorado Buff) is mortared to the concrete pad. In this case, we added a Buff color to the gaps to blend the flagstone for a more uniform appearance. This patio also included large flagstone step units, granite boulder walls and a pre-casted, natural gas concrete firepit.
